Land and Construction Surveyors, NSW & QLD
Training and Development
Staff training is of two types formal and informal.
Formal training requires surveyors to maintain their professional development by attendance at various seminars and conferences during any year in both NSW and Queensland. There is a requirement that all Registered Surveyors and Cadastral Surveyors maintain their Continued Professional Development points or they cannot continue to practice. McLauchlan Surveying supports their attendance at the required conferences and facilitates this by providing airline flights and accommodation when necessary for staff to attend.
REGULAR SEMINARS ATTENDED BY REGISTERED SURVEYING STAFF
The business has an annual staff seminar which is conducted alternately at Sydney and the Gold Coast. This allows the opportunity for all the members of the linked offices and their partners to meet one another and exchange ideas and it is also a full days structured seminar with various speakers on all things including OH & S, the direction of the business, expectations of staff and training in all the aspects of surveying undertaken by the business. The seminar is recognized by the Institution of Surveyors for continuing Professional Development points.
It is also a time when we gather for social interaction at an annual Christmas Party. All costs are borne by the company and these events have proved to be very beneficial for staff morale and learning.
Informal training is ongoing and is usually conducted in-house. If a surveyor or other staff member is deemed to not be up to date with current work practices or methods, other staff members are commissioned to provide one on one training, or specialist persons are used in the training of staff.
If any local seminars are being held and it is felt that any staff member would benefit by attending, then attendance is organized at the expense of McLauchlan Surveying.
Recent developments in OH & S have required that all personnel attend various safety seminars and there are requirements that job safety plans be provided prior to attendance at worksites. Regular toolbox talks or safety meetings are held to ensure staff is kept informed of new safety requirements.
